Fowl Play On-Line Catalog

Thank You for your interest in our toys! Our toys are vet approved, and considered some of the best available. They have been featured in Bird Talk Magazine and Companion Parrot Quarterly / Pet Bird Report many times. Safety for your bird is our first concern. Our leather is vegetable tanned, zinc-free and domestic. Beads are acrylic, high impact and properly sized for the toy. Metal parts are nickel-plated or stainless steel. All other items used are safe, clean and high quality. We choose the best toys and materials on the market. No toy is 100% safe, so always watch how your bird plays with new toys and check all toys daily for wear that may pose hazards.

To Owners of Destructive Birds

It is natural for birds to chew and otherwise destroy their toys. Our toys are made to be chewed, destroyed and enjoyed. Many of the best toys made of leather and wood will not stand up to the rough play of certain rowdy individuals. We have many satisfied Macaw and Cockatoo customers, but some birds are unusually destructive, The Wheels & Balls, Jungle Jumble, Huge-mongous, Big Bubba, Diamonds, and Diamonds Jr. toys, as well as the Ring-O-Rama toy parts are recommended for these special birds. We also carry packages of large hardwood shapes (Bag O' Wood - Large), cactus wood cut to various lengths, and two sizes of hardwood barbells that are sure to keep the big guys occupied and content.

General Size Guide for Toys

Small - Budgies, Cockatiels, Lovebirds, Pionus, small Conures, Parrotlets
Medium - African Greys, small & medium Amazons, large Conures, small Cockatoos, Eclectus
Large - Macaws, large Cockatoos, large Amazons

Know what your bird is capable of and buy the correct size of toy. Some destructive medium sized birds might do better with a large toy, or if your bird is afraid of new things, start out with a smaller toy and gradually work up to the larger ones.

Satisfaction Guaranteed!

Used toys cannot be returned. Once a toy has been in contact with your bird, even hanging untouched in the cage, it cannot be resold to any other customer. But, if you open the Fowl Play package and discover right away that a toy is just not what you had in mind, you can return it or exchange it for another. Exchanges are welcome, but please know that you will be responsible for the normal return shipping charge. Make sure to pack the items you are returning well, you won't receive credit for items that arrive to us damaged due to lack of protection during return shipping.

Toy Hints

Veterinarians recommend keeping a wide variety of toys on hand and rotating them periodically. Birds need variety, otherwise they may become bored and begin to exhibit unwelcome behaviors such as plucking, biting, over-preening, and so forth.

1. Always observe your bird with any new toy for a period of time. You know your bird better than anyone. If your bird is afraid of a new toy introduce it gradually. First, put it near the cage for a few days - moving it closer as the days pass. Next, try putting it on top of the cage for a closer inspection. Then, if it's a hanging toy, install it in the cage. If resistance continues, it's probably best to replace the toy with another selection.

2. Please use caution with all hanging toys. Birds can wrap chains, leather strips, or rope around their necks and strangle. If your bird has a leg band, even more caution is recommended. Leg bands can get caught on toy parts. Even though we select the best bird toys available, bells can be a problem. It's important to check bells often for wear and tear. Bell clappers may come loose and be swallowed. We don't recommend giving toys with bells to Cockatoos, Macaws or large Amazons.

3. Birds need to chew and shred their toys, it's their nature. BUT - there is a difference between eating and shredding. Watch that your bird is not actually ingesting foreign substances. We refuse to carry flavored wood precisely because some birds can become confused between food and flavored toy parts.

4. As a safety measure, when hanging toys make sure you tighten quick links with pliers. Be sure the size of the pear or quick link matches the size of the toy. Large toys require bigger fasteners.
