Wood Parts

We check all wood parts for quality and safety before preparing them for toy making. Toy parts are drilled and dyed in our own Fowl Play Workshop using bird-safe FD&C approved colors. This means that you receive "factory direct" parts of first quality. Parts we consider seconds are set aside then sorted again for quality and safety. Parts that make the cut are put into bags of Uglee Wood that we sell at a bargain price.

Uglee Wood is a 1 pound bag (40 to 50 pieces) of the same drilled wood parts used on our toys. Think of it as "scratch & dent" toy parts from the Fowl Play Workshop…at a bargain price! Each bag contains a mix of medium and large sized hardwood and softwood pieces, some dye-free and some in color.

All toy parts, except the Mini Wheels, are pre-drilled to fit on 1/4" or smaller leather strips, and cotton rope. (The Mini Wheels fit on 1/8" leather strips and 1/16" cotton cord.) Choose from the following packs:

BAG-O-STARS - COLOR

Star Light, Star Bright!

These brightly colored hardwood stars are pre-drilled to accept 1/4" or smaller leather strips, metal chain, or cotton rope. Many birds also love them as foot toys! Just put them in the toy bowl with other favorite chewies and chase away the doldrums. Choose from the following packs:

5 Country Stars: 1 1/4" x 3/16" thick
5 Small Stars: 1 5/8" x 3/16" thick
5 Medium Stars: 2" x 1/4" thick

Hint: For longer lasting chewies, take a leather strip, knot it, slip a star on, make another knot, cut the leather strip (be sure to keep a good pair of heavy duty scissors nearby), and drop your contribution into the toy bowl. Let the chips fly. Sometimes we knot the leather twice on each side. Sometimes we string together doubles, even triples. Critter, the Fowl Play Blue-Crowned Conure, spends lots of time untying the knots and chewing the stars to mulch. She likes other wood parts tied the same way.

BAG-O-STARS - NATURAL

Birds love chewing the points off wood stars!

Each undyed star is pre-drilled with a 9/32" hole, ready to use on leather strips, metal chain or 1/4" dia. cotton rope. You can even use them as foot toys! Medium stars are 2" wide and 1/4" thick. Small stars are 1 5/8" wide and 3/16" thick.

Available in packs of 10 or money saving packs of 100.

BAG-O-WOOD

Chewing is a natural instinctive behavior and hardwood pieces are a favorite! The hardwood shapes in this bag offer a variety of shapes, thickness, and textures for chewing pleasure. It's the same fun and interesting drilled hardwood shapes we use on our toys. Each undyed wood shape is pre-drilled with a 9/32" hole, ready to use on leather strips, metal chain or 1/4" diameter cotton rope. You can even use these pieces as individual foot toys! Large wood shapes are recommended for Macaws, Cockatoos, large Amazons and medium sized birds that are big chewers. Medium wood shapes are recommended for African Greys, Eclectus, small Cockatoos, small Macaws, small Amazons, large Conures, large Pionus and small birds that enjoy a chewing challenge. Small wood shapes are recommended for all small birds.

BAG-O-SPOOLS

Available in Color or Dye-free Natural.

Many Birds Love to Play with Empty Spools! They are great to use in your own toy making or as chewie foot toys. These hardwood spools come in sizes that can fit most any bird and are drilled to accept 3/16" and 1/4" cotton rope and both sizes of the leather strips on sale on our Bird Toy Parts page under Leather Parts. The mini spools we presently have in stock will only fit our 1/8" leather strips. You get five spools in each pack.

Medium Hourglass = 1 1/4" dia x 2" long. Small Barrel and Hourglass = 7/8" dia x 1 1/4" long. Mini Barrel = 5/8" dia x 3/4" long.

VINE PACK

An 8-Pack Of Fine Vine Fun!

Bird-safe vines are hand woven into shapes that are just great for toy making...or use them straight from the package without embellishment as chewie hand toys. Either way, they provide an abundance of natural textures and shapes to keep your feathered pal entertained. Each package includes: two 1 1/4" vine balls; one 2" vine ball; three 2" vine wreaths, and two, 3" vine twists.

Recommended for Extra-Small and Small birds. Some Medium birds that are not big chewers may also enjoy them.

It's a toy part…it's a hand toy… it's both! Critter the Blue-Crowned Conure's favorite toy is now available to everyone! These 1 1/2" diameter, 1/8" thick hardwood disks are perfect for crunching fun. Pre-drilled to accept 1/4" wide leather strips, 1/4" & 3/8" diameter cotton rope and small plastic chain, they will be a perfect addition to your toy-making adventures. You can also do what we do, and add them to your birdie pal's chewie bowl and watch the crunching begin! Birds from Conures, Mini-Macaws, Quakers and Pionus up to African Greys, small Cockatoos and small Amazons will love making "mulch" out of these cool discs. These are the same disks used on our Kritter Krunch and Bandit's Stack toys. They are dyed in the Fowl Play Workshop using FD&C approved dyes with no flavoring.

HARDWOOD BEADS

Four Sizes To Choose From!

Critter, our Blue-Crowned Conure, picks up the standard sized bead from her toy cup and peels it layer by layer until just a small core remains. Unusual? No. Customers tell us that their parrots also like peeling beads to mulch. Some enjoy picking up individual beads with their feet and gnawing on them like a small foot toy. Others prefer to chew on beads strung on cotton rope or leather. A simple pleasure. Large and Medium come in packs of 5. Standard and Mini come in packs of 10 and 100.

What fun --18 pre-drilled ABC blocks that can be used to make foot toys or hanging toys! Each pine block has colorful letters and other appealing designs that will tempt your parrot to take a closer look and perhaps a crunch or two. X-Large blocks appear to be about twice the size of Large blocks which appear to be about twice the size of Small blocks.
